Anne Oughtibridge
(reprinted from The Victorian Probian – June/July 2013)
Anne Oughtibridge has recently joined the Probus Association of Victoria.
Anne has been married 58 years to Ray and they have a son Simon, daughter-in-law Sam, and two grandsons, Ryan, 17, and Arron 12, who live in South Freemantle and unfortunately only get a chance to visit once a year.
Consequently, Anne spends a lot of time with Probus activities. She enjoys joining with Probus friends in doing craft, dining out, movie lunches, going to the theatre, day trips, caravanning, DVD nights and going on extended holidays.
She enjoys gardening, craft markets and having coffee with friends on a regular basis.
Anne and Ray migrated to Australia in 1966 from the UK, followed by her parents and brother in 1968.
They lived in South Caulfield until 1968 when they moved to Ringwood North, where they have lived ever since. Her working background was in banking and insurance, and she was employed as an office or administration manager for various companies.
Anne then decided to work for herself and trained to be a postmaster, and bought into a business in Ringwood East. She however sold this after three years when ATMs began to operate.
She then undertook a beautician’s course and was lucky enough to be trained by Bill Peacock, who was a make-up artist to the stars, including Elizabeth Taylor.
For several years after this, Anne had her own beauty business making up brides and doing body waxing and nails. In 1998 she retired, but she still continues with her nutrimetics business.
Probus interests now occupy most of her time.
Anne was president (2000) of Ringwood East Ladies Club, president (2003) of Melbourne Outer Eastern Region (Probus), foundation president (2004) and life member of Maroondah Combined and foundation president 2007 and life member of Ringwood Clocktower.
In addition, Anne now coordinates tours for the outer eastern region.
