And what a day it turned out to be, quite cool early, with a sharp wind, but later much kinder weather with the sun coming out and warming us all up.
Now to the fishing, we started up going out into the deep water channels where our captain, Stuart, thought the Big Reds (Snapper), might be starting to bite again after the spawning season, but that wasn’t to be, lots of small pinkies, flathead and seven gill (pup) sharks but nothing of any size. After an hour or so we moved in closer to shore and started catching a number of different fish of reasonable size, more pinkies, yellow tail scad, gummy shark, flathead and even a leather jacket.
Then, closer to shore, on to the reef, where more of the same fish were caught.
Morning tea was served on our way out to the first fish. Tea, coffee, cordial, cold water, soft drinks and lamingtons, all available.
The BBQ brunch at 10.45 am was terrific, hamburgers, sausages, veggie patties, lots of caramelised onions, served with salads, three different breads, at least ten sauces.
I have been convenor of the fishing group since 2010, and I must say this is the most professional charter we have ever been on, captain and deckie were excellent, fishing rods and reels all first class, the help, for those that needed, it was great, and all this for $90 with five hours on the water.
I would like to encourage any members that haven’t been on one of our charters to to contact me and have a chat because it’s a great day out, lots of fun, laughter, gossip, good company, and you never know but you could go home with some really fresh fish, as did everyone that wanted to on this charter. Everyone that was on this trip said they wanted to go again soon.
